Vocal Improvisation and play!

Benefits

Group singing can offer so many benefits to health and wellbeing, including deep breathing, reduced stress and anxiety, relaxation, self-expression, increased confidence, mood-state, and sense of well-being, exercising the mind, human connection, sense of community, and sharing something beautiful!

Our voice is the essence of us – the instrument through which we convey emotions, express ourselves and connect with others. Sound is a form of expression without words.  Voice activation can be a transformational process - releasing blockages in and around the throat, breaking down any limiting beliefs, opening and unlocking the true power of the voice!

Theme:

This interactive, small group session will focus on using the voice to improvise and play and create!

Beginning with vocal exercises and warm-ups, we will then move into games and fun and creative voice techniques that connect us together, activate our voices, build confidence and bring our inner child out to play!

Drum games and drum circle

Theme:

This interactive, small group session will focus on using the drum as an art form, to improvise, play, create, connect, and have fun!

What to expect

Using frame drums and beaters provided by me, we will play games, improvise, use the drum as a form of expression without words and find our rhythm - as a group and within ourselves.

You are welcome bring your own frame drum if you’d like to.

Benefits

Drum circles have been part of healing rituals in many cultures throughout the world since ancient times. They bring us together in community, to share in the pleasure of making music together, enhance our creativity, musicality and freedom of expression, communicate beyond words, listen and be heard.

All of the techniques connect mind, body, emotions, sound.  The stabilizing nature of the rhythm can offer potential both to energise and to bring the system down into a stable and relaxed state.  The activity of a drum circle can be beneficial for people with limited movement, great for enhancing coordination, hand to brain exercise and motor skills. Apart from all of this, drum circles and games are great fun!

Literal Sound and Voicescape

Theme:

This session will focus on creating a Literal Sound and Voicescape, which is a piece of art that is literally translated into sound, using a range of different instruments and playing/vocal techniques. The aim here is to practice the art of ‘dropping the story’… a creative practice in letting go of stories that may generate anxiety, by focusing only on exactly what we see, only what is in front of us, with no projection, and no interpretation.

The ability to notice when we are in story and consciously detach is a practice that has the potential to help reduce anxiety.

Beginning with vocal exercises, warm-ups and rhythm games to bring us together and find our voices, I will then provide an image for the group to translate into sound, using a range of different instruments and playing/vocal techniques.

I will provide a selection of instruments gathered from around the world, that are accessible and easy to play, including percussion, drums, bowls, chimes and more.

Benefits:

Group sound and voice activities offer so many benefits to health and wellbeing, including enjoyment, creativity, expression, relaxation, community building, improved mental health, relaxation, deep breathing, exercising the mind, building relationships, and sharing something beautiful!
